HATC Board Members and Friends put together a carpool and headed out for the State Capitol on February 22, 23 to Converge on the Capitol. Joined by more than 800 hospitality industry professionals from all over Texas, this team presented tourism statistics and plead our case to avoid cuts in tourism spending for the state of Texas that will directly impact our hotels.

The Converge, carefully and amazingly choreographed by TH&LA President, Scott Joslove, and other hospitality industry professionals, divided us up into teams and allowed us to visit with our state and local legislators to educate them on the importance of tourism to the state economy.

Did you Know…?

– that Texas is the 3rd most popular destination in the US, behind only California and Florida?  Well, the legislators know now.
– that Texas cities have the highest hotel occupancy tax rates of any major city in the country?
– that Hotel Tax Rate is double the rate of Texas Sales Tax.
– that 50% of travel to destinations within Texas is by Texans…so we’re paying our own tax
– that for every $1 that the state spends to advertise Texas, more than $7 is returned in state tax revenues

Your HATC Board Members and friends had your back, Tarrant County, and we will continue to advocate on behalf of our hotels and hotel partners in Tarrant County.
